Project Objectives/Components

 

  • Analyze newly collected data along with prior data regarding landslides to determine those existing areas at risk due to future seismically induced landslides.
  • Developed a detailed GIS database to support the above analyses,
  • Provided the Housing Team with rapid, up to date information regarding at risk housing.

Project Tasks

  • Developeded a detailed GIS database to support the analyses of landslide risk for urban areas in Guatemala City ,
  • Developded a 3Dimensional model of the city to accurately calculate slope for use in the risk models,
  • Utilized up to date IRS satellite data to create up to date data for urban extent and content,
  • Converted old landslide information into the GIS to use to calculate those areas most at risk for future landslides,
  • Calculated approximate impact of future landslides on existing housing and determine ‘no go zones' for future housing.
  • Prepared Terms of Reference for follow on phase work.
