Project Objectives/Components

The project objective was for ILS to provide technical assistance in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in strengthening land tenure rights and in developing a market economy.  ILS provided the Chief of Party position for the two country bridging project.

Project Tasks

In Tajikistan, to strengthen the development of a market economy by (a.) facilitating the development of market-oriented land legislation and policy, and (b.) by facilitating the proper implementation of land reform and the farm restructuring process.

In Kyrgryzstan, to strengthen the development of a market economy by facilitating the development of vibrant, modern agricultural land by (a.) eliminating remaining impediments in the legal framework; (b.) assisting with the implementation of the land legislation changes; and (c.) assisting the Government of Kyrgyzstan with the roll-out of the program on the State-owned Land Redistribution Fund.
